The Appalachian Center & Appalachian Studies Program is a vibrant community consisting of undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and community members. Representing a wide array of disciplines from colleges across the University, affiliates partner with Appalachian communities, conduct research, lead community engagement projects, and teach courses relating to the region.
There are two primary affiliation categories, Appalachian Studies Program Faculty Affiliation and Appalachian Center Affiliation. Please select the appropriate linked form based on the descriptions below.
For Appalachian Studies Program Faculty affiliation, select one of the options below:
Option 1: Appalachian Studies Program Faculty Affiliate
Appalachian Studies Program Faculty Affiliates are invited to attend faculty meetings and meet with the program Director regularly to provide feedback and advice on the program and the curriculum. They are invited to support the Director, as appropriate, e.g., teaching elective courses for Appalachian Studies, mentoring students, participating in co-curricular activities, participating in the periodic reviews of program. They must be faculty members at the University of Kentucky. Appalachian Studies Program Faculty Affiliates are appointed to one-year terms and do not have voting privileges.
Option 2: Appalachian Studies Program Core Faculty Affiliate:
Appalachian Studies Program Core Faculty Affiliates should attend faculty meetings and must meet with the program Director regularly, but at least once per semester, to provide feedback and advice on the program and the curriculum. They are required to support the Director, as appropriate, e.g., serving on committees, teaching elective courses for Appalachian Studies, mentoring students, participating in co-curricular activities, participating in the periodic reviews of program. They must be faculty members at the University of Kentucky. Appalachian Studies Program Core Faculty Affiliates will be appointed to a three-year term as Faculty of Record for the Appalachian Studies Program. They do have voting privileges.

For staff, students, community members, or UK faculty who did not select the faculty affiliation options above:
Appalachian Center Affiliates are invited to all Appalachian Studies Program and Appalachian Center meetings and events. They may be faculty members, staff, undergraduate students, graduate students, alumni, or community members with an interest in the region and supporting the work of the Center. They do not have voting privileges. They are welcome but not required to support the Directors in a variety of ways and are part of the larger engaged community on campus and beyond.
