UK Martin School Book Club Event Kickoff

Please  join us this February for the 2024 Martin School Book Club, featuring “The Injustice of Place: Uncovering the Legacy of Poverty in America,” by Dr. Kathryn J. Edin (Princeton University), H. Luke Shaefer (University of Michigan), Timothy J. Nelson (Princeton University).

February 1 is the kickoff event to launch the discussion of the 2024 book selection, The Injustice of Place by Kathryn J. Edin, H. Luke Shaefer, and Timothy J. Nelson. There will be two book club events following this kickoff, one the week of February 5 and another the week of February 12.

This reading group centered on Appalachia-based and/or Appalachian-written novels resumes with Crystal Wilkinson's The Birds of Opulence - please see this helpful Google sheet for which pages we will be reading for the 11th. We will meet in the Appalachian Center Annex Conference Room (641 S. SWAP- Sharing Work on Appalachia in Progress

Join us for our SWAP (Sharing Work on Appalachia in Progress) presentation at the Appalachian Center (624 Maxwelton Ct.) or tune in virtually via Zoom. This year, SWAPs will showcase the research conducted by recipients of the 2023 James S. Brown Graduate Student Award for Research on Appalachia and the UK Appalachian Center Eller & Billings Student Research Award, as well as other scholars and students sharing their research.
