GARC Weekly Writing and Work Group (Tuesdays 9:00-10:00 AM)

The Graduate Appalachian Research Community (GARC) meets weekly for a 'drop-in' block where grads can stop by and work on writing projects, emails, course prep, etc. with other grads to encourage solidarity and build community amongst those with App Studies interests. The group meets weekly in the Appalachian Center Annex. You are welcome to drop in for any part of that time. We will have coffee, tea, and water available. Come write or work with fellow App Studies friends!

GARC Event: Bonfire at Eckert's Orchard

The Graduate Appalachian Research Community (GARC) is planning a fall trip to Eckert’s (1396 Pinckard Pike, Versailles, KY, 40383 US)! We have reserved a bonfire site. For admission, you just need to purchase a ticket ($12.38), which also gives you access to the haunted hayride, playground, and picking fields. To reserve a ticket, go to the Bonfire Site Rental site, select October 10th and purchase an Admission Ticket only. You can also purchase tickets at the farm. All are welcome to come and go from the bonfire from 4pm until the farm closes at 10pm. The bonfire will be lit around 6:30pm. Family, friends, and partners are also welcome. We will have snacks available but please feel free to bring your own. Come hang out, learn more about GARC and the Appalachian Center, and catch up with other App studies folks!

Pinnacles Hike

Join the UK Appalachian Center and Appalachian Studies Program for a hiking trip to the Pinnacles in Berea! This will be a guided hike led by the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Berea College Forestry Outreach Center. UK Appalachian Center Director, Dr. Kathryn Engle, will also lead the group. The trip will last approximately 12:30 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, October 19.

There will also be an option to meet at the Pinnacles (address to be provided).
