There are multiple steps to completing an AppalachiaCorps internship. The timeline below will guide students through the process.
Prior to Internship
- Fill out an Inquiry Form to notify AppCorps staff of your interest in Appalachia, location, skills and/or experience. This will add you to our email list so you will recieve updates about the internship program.
- Attend an information session to learn more about the program and ask questions.

- Make contact with an organization and begin working out details with the potential internship site.
- In consultation with your internship site supervisor, fill out a Position Agreement, to be signed by the student, partner site supervisor, and AppalachiaCorps staff.
- Apply for position through UK HR and complete necessary paperwork

(Students must apply through UK HR. Students cannot be compensated for hours worked until the UK HR process is complete and students are given the go ahead to begin working. This includes submitting an I-9 form)
- Complete and submit a Learning Contract by Friday May 5th.
- Have your internship site supervisor complete a Partner Site Memorandum of Understanding by Friday May 5th.
During Internship (May 8- August 18, 15 weeks possible)
There are a few assignments that need to be completed by students during their AppalachiaCorps internships. Students work at internship sites, submit timesheets via email and via myUK, attend cohort meetings, and submit reflections about their experiences.

- Aug 18- (Friday) Graduation Party- Time TBA- part of K Week
Mid season check in meeting with Dr. Engle (week of June 19th)
AppalachiaCorps Mid-Summer Reflection 2023 (to be completed by the student intern by Friday June 23rd at 5:00 pm)
Revised Resumes submitted to Dr. Engle Due Monday July 17th
AppalachiaCorps Final Reflection 2023 (to be completed by the student intern due by Friday, August 18th)
After Completing Internship
Graduation Party! - August 18 (time TBA, tentative location- Appalachian Center), final reflection submissions due at this time.
