Appalachian Center Student Travel Funding

The UK Appalachian Center supports undergraduate and graduate student research through mentorship, conference facilitation, administrative support, and funding opportunities.

2019 Appalachian Center Student Travel Funding is available to graduate and undergraduate students presenting their Appalachian-related work at academic conferences. In particular, funding is available for students to attend the 2019 Appalachian Studies Association (ASA) Conference March 14-17, 2019, in Asheville, NC. Funding is limited and awards will be given based on availability of funds. Applications that are received as soon as possible will be given preference. Students may apply for funding to attend other conferences through the end of the fiscal year (June 30) although preference will be given to students presenting at ASA.

Students may apply for 2019 Appalachian Center Student Travel Funding for up to $250. When applying students will provide a budget and proof of conference acceptance. Funds may cover costs including travel, lodging, registration, and any other appropriate costs. Funds will be in the form of a reimbursement so all necessary receipts will need to be submitted.

To be considered for Appalachian Center Student Travel Funding for the 2019 ASA Conference in Asheville, students should submit applications by March 1, 2019. We encourage students to travel together, room together when possible, and also to apply for the available ASA Scholarships: http://appalachianstudies.org/annualconference/scholarships/.  The deadline for ASA scholarship requests via their website link is February 12, 2019.  The scholarship from ASA covers the cost of registration/membership only.
